Southern Yankee Crafthouse is a Houston gastropub, established in 2021 and built on quality, variety, and comfort. Our wood-fired, Neapolitan-style pizza starts with a three-day dough for incredible texture and richness, alongside house-made, seasonal, and local plates whenever we can. Pair it with a full bar of curated spirits, signature craft cocktails, and specialty house sodas, plus a rotating tap list of 15+ local craft beers.

A Family Passion Takes Root

It started in 2021 with a simple idea: a Houston gastropub built on quality, variety, and comfort. That hands-on, no-pretense love for great food and drink became the DNA for everything that followed.

Landing on West Alabama

The team spotted the former Good Dog Houston space at 1312 West Alabama and knew Montrose was the only neighborhood that made sense — vibrant, unpretentious, and hungry for something real. They signed the lease, hung the rooster sign, and got to work.

The Oven Changes Everything

A wood-fired oven went front and center, turning out Neapolitan-style pizza built on a three-day dough for texture and richness you can taste. It sparked the kind of cult devotion that brings people back before the last slice is gone, and gave the food equal billing with the drinks.

Houston Noticed, Then the Nation

The Houston Chronicle, CultureMap, The Infatuation, and OutSmart all took note. Then Yelp named Southern Yankee Crafthouse No. 59 on its national Top 100 — the only Houston restaurant to make the cut.
